The NEMBC is proud to announce the second annual Radioactive Multicultural Youth Broadcasters’ Forum.

Radioactive is a youth led initiative which will coincide with the National Youth Week celebrations to be held from Saturday 4th April to Sunday 5th April at Edith Cowan University, 2 Bradford Street, Mount Lawley, Perth.

We are inviting young multicultural youth from WA to attend the forum to learn about the possibilities community broadcasting can offer youth of diverse cultural backgrounds.  The forum will include youth who currently broadcast and those curious about getting involved.  It will be a great opportunity for young people, particularly those from new and emerging communities, who are interested in the media, to meet other multicultural media makers, find out about the resources available and learn some new skills from their peers.  It will certainly be an exciting two days and it would be great to have you be part of it!

Community broadcasting gives you a chance to create media and not just be consumers of it! It’s a chance to represent yourself, your ideas, your community, your language and culture.

Participants will engage in workshops and information sessions that not only promote new skills and but will also feed into planning for the future of multicultural community youth broadcasting and strategies to increase youth participation.

The conference will include presentations from journalist Saeed Saeed, Peggy Giakoumelos from SBS Radio, skills-based workshops including interview techniques for beginners, digital editing and voice training with Julia Moody. The Sunday will be more focused on the role broadcasters have in representing communities, and will include presentations and workshops lead by youth worker and comedian Mujahid Ahmed, Radio Adelaide’s Joseph Tungaraza and Jude Sorenson as well as the NEMBC National Youth Committee.
