What is community radio?
Community radio is independent radio made by volunteers for their community. There are more than 200 comunity stations around Australia in cities and regions, serving their local communities. Each station has its own management and broadcast area.
What is community language (ethnic) broadcasting?
Every day community radio stations around Australia broadcast programs in 100 languages. These programs are locally produced by volunteers who are committed to supporting their communities. In many cases new migrant and refugee communities take the first step to establish a media service in their language on community radio stations.
Why start a radio program?
You may already have a newsletter to get information to members of your community. Using radio to distribute information has several advantages. Radio is more personal, more up-to-date, more entertaining, more interactive (listeners call you up!) and a lot more fun!
