Indira Narayan is the Emerging and Refugee Communities Project Coordinator until the end of August, 2004. Indira is an experienced community radio broadcaster and she is available to help your community start your own radio program. See below for contact details.
The NEMBC Emerging and Refugee Communities project started in January 2003. The project is supported by a grant from the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs. Outreach and training is based out of the offices and studios of 3ZZZ Ethnic Community Radio.
Indira is employed on a part time basis to work with newly arrived (in the last 15 -20 years) emerging and refugee communities in Victoria. Indira facilitates information flow to these communities about community radio and assists their member's access to radio training and air time.
Indira has been working in community radio for the last 5 years. She has been a current affairs programmer, radio trainer, organiser in the International Women's Day Collective and 3CR Indigenous Liaison Committee member during this time as well as a member of 3CR's Committee of Management for the last two and half years. This year Indira has also taken up a staff position at 3CR as the Ethnic Resources and Development Worker.
Currently Indira produces two programs at 3CR which are broadcast nationally on the ComRadSat, (Community Radio Satellite), by the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia. The programs are: Earth Matters, an environmental issues program, (Sundays at 11am - 855AM 3CR); and Accent of Women, (Mondays 11am - 855AM 3CR), a program by and about women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Accent of Women is the only ethnic radio program in Australia broadcast nationally on the ComRadSat, and is predominantly in English.
Indira works 10am - 3pm Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays . Her contact details are:
