Womens Projects

The Women’s Committee aims to encourage and engage women broadcasters in projects to enrich and empower them in their own communities and beyond.
Some of the projects include:

Outstanding Women’s CD

Ten years after its inception, the Women's Committee decided to publicise the stories of six outstanding migrant and refugee women in 2006.

The result is a CD of interviews recorded with women from culturally and professionally diverse backgrounds, sharing their successes and many challenges, stemming from their experiences of migration. Completed with the support of the NEMBC Women's Committee, the CD was sponsored by 6EBA 95.3fm in Perth and World Radio in Tasmania.

The stories display remarkable journeys of resilience, courage, determination and celebration of the human spirit. The interviews are recorded in English and are welcome to be played on any radio program.

Migrant Women in the Workforce

An oral history series of ten programs on a double CD’s was conceived by the committee to promote the contribution of migrant women to the Australian workforce and to raise the profile of migrant women broadcasters working in community media.
The CD’s were produced by migrant women community broadcasters, telling of jobs on the factory floor, industrial action, the experience of coming to a new country, learning a new language and the struggle for recognition of overseas qualifications and experience.

International Women’s Day Celebrations

Every year the women’s committee records Multilingual announcements for International Women’s Day.

Women’s Survey

A survey of ethnic women broadcasters by the NEMBC Women's Committee was presented to the NEMBC Annual General Meeting in November 1997.  The results are available from the women’s page on the NEMBC website.
The purpose of the survey was to find out:
-           What women are doing within their programming groups and stations
-           What issues are of interest and concern to women
-           What women feel could be done to assist them
