AERTP training is based on the Film, Television, Radio and Multimedia training package: the set of nationally endorsed standards and qualifications for recognising and assessing people's skills in these industries. The training package describes national competency standards, which set out the skills and knowledge you need for radio broadcasting.
The radio industry has decided which combinations of competency standards make up a qualification. You can get a Certificate II, III or IV in Broadcasting (radio).
These certificates are industry-endorsed and nationally recognised: they comply with the Australian Qualifications Framework, a nationally consistent system for all qualifications in Australia.

Certificate II - Foundations of Broadcasting (radio)
This Certificate II in Broadcasting (radio) as offered through AERTP is a stand-alone course - it is designed to provide ethnic broadcasters new to broadcasting with the foundation skills in all the key areas of radio production and broadcasting including broadcast law and standards, panel operating and presenting.
Certificate II - News and Current Affairs (radio)
In addition to a general introductory training course (Foundations of Broadcasting) AERTP offers a Certificate II in Broadcasting (radio) that is customised to meet the needs of broadcasters wishing to focus specifically in the area of news and current affairs. This Certificate II - News and Current Affairs (radio) includes many of the competencies covered in the Certificate II - Foundations of Broadcasting (radio).
These two short courses have been designated a Certificate II in Broadcasting (Radio) and are intended for participants without any prior knowledge or background in radio to provide foundation skills in radio production and broadcasting.
The topics contained in the Certificate II level training provided by AERTP cannot be studied independently of the whole course. Topics covered in the two Certificate II courses are as follows:
Certificate II Foundations of Broadcasting (radio):

Certificate III in Broadcasting (radio) CUF30301
This training covers all the basics of radio production and equates to the previous Certificate II in Australian Community Radio Training. The program is designed for ethnic broadcasters with limited experience, however the topics can be delivered separately or as a whole working towards a major assessment task.
The Certificate III course can be taken on its own or it can provide a foundation for the Certificate IV course.

Certificate IV in Broadcasting (radio) Topics:
The Certificate III as now delivered through AERTP will provide 4 of the units required for a Certificate IV. This means that to achieve the Certificate IV qualification you must attain competency in 10 additional units of competency. These units are contained within the topics 12 to 26.
However, because some of these units are classified as 'specialist' and some are 'elective', to build a qualification the following options are suggested: (see attached documents for details of units of competency.)
To build a Certificate IV from a Certificate III the following options are suggested:
1. Select AT LEAST TWO of the following Group B Specialist topics:New certificate qualifications
The NEMBC through the AERTP has aligned its training program with the National Training Package so that now we can deliver Certificate II, III and IV. The major change is that each module or topic is aligned to one or more units of competency from the National Training Package and the qualifications issued will specify which units of competency have been achieved. These qualifications are industry endorsed and nationally recognised.
