Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) Awareness Campaign 2026

The NEMBC and the Australian Department of Health, Disability and Ageing are collaborating on a new round of distribution of ready-to-air 60-second grabs in Arabic, English, Indonesian, Turkish and Urdu on the topic of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), produced by the NEMBC in 2026.

The script for all languages is as follows:

“If you’re travelling to Saudi Arabia for Hajj this year, reduce your risk of Middle East respiratory syndrome, also known as MERS, a rare but severe respiratory illness.

Symptoms can include fever, cough, new shortness of breath and diarrhoea.

To protect yourself, avoid contact with sick people, camels, raw camel milk, meat and urine, and wash your hands regularly.

If you feel unwell when travelling, tell a crew member or airport staff.

If you develop MERS symptoms in Australia, see your doctor immediately and tell them your travel history.

Check Smartraveller.gov.au for travel advice.

Find more information at health.gov.au/MERS.

A message from the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing”.

The distribution will take place over five weeks in two phases, across 10 community radio stations:

  • Phase 1: 4 May – 24 May 2026
  • Break: Distribution paused during the Hajj period (25–31 May)
  • Phase 2: 1 June – 14 June 2026

Keeping Under-16s Safer Online – 2026

The Australian Government is protecting young Australians at a critical stage of their development through world first social media age restrictions, which came into effect on 10 December 2025.

Under these new rules, age restricted social media platforms are not permitted to allow under 16s to create or hold an account. This is because being logged into an account significantly increases the likelihood of exposure to pressures and risks that can be difficult for young people to manage.

These risks are driven by social media platform design features that encourage prolonged screen time and promote content that can negatively impact health and wellbeing.

The NEMBC has joined the ‘For the good of their wellbeing’ campaign and is collaborating with Think HQ/CultureVerse to distribute ready-to-air audio grabs of between 30 and 45 seconds in ArabicCantoneseDariEnglishKoreanMandarinPunjabi and Vietnamese.

All content has been approved by the federal government and is freely available for broadcast.

We invite radio stations and producers to utilise the grabs, scripts, graphics and videos to broadcast and share them online with your audiences.

More information is available via the Social Media Age Restrictions Hub.

The ready-to-air grabs, scripts, graphics and audiogram videos are available to download here.

Seatbelt Safety Community Radio and Online Distribution – 2025

The NEMBC and CultureVerse have partnered to support the Transport Accident Commission’s seatbelt safety campaign, Cut, Colour, Click. This initiative teams up with barber shops and salons across Victoria, where popular stylists and barbers act as ambassadors for road safety in their communities, highlighting the importance of wearing seatbelts.

As trusted local voices, these ambassadors are equipped with key messages and resources to spark meaningful conversations with clients about how buckling up on every trip can be the difference between life and death.

The NEMBC developed a script and produced an English-language audio file for broadcast on five Victorian community radio stations over three weeks, starting on 11 August 2025. In addition, the NEMBC created a Headliner-style video for online distribution through social media.

Stations and producers are free to download and broadcast the grab at their discretion.

The NEMBC and CultureVerse have partnered to distribute ready-to-air grabs in Dari, Mandarin, Punjabi and English across eight radio stations in Victoria for four weeks, starting 15 July 2025, as part of a campaign led by WorkSafe Victoria.

The following is the English script:

“Everyone at work is responsible for keeping their work environment safe. It is important safety is discussed at your workplace. These discussions can take place in team meetings or in one-on-one conversations. Your employer should work closely with you to make sure there is no risk for injury in your daily work. Your employer should keep a record of injuries that have happened at work. Information is now available online in your language. Please visit worksafe.vic.gov.au/languages”.

Broadcast Audio: Simon Marnie talks to Australian ex-service people – 2025

The NEMBC has partnered with I&G to distribute, within the NEMBC network, an audio series produced by I&G for the Veteran Employment Program, an initiative of the Australian Government Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

The 8-part series is hosted by Simon Marnie, a founding member of FBi Community Radio and former ABC broadcaster.

It features interviews with four successful ex-service people who have built on their military experience to make significant contributions in civilian workplaces.

The series is part of a broader effort to highlight the value veterans bring to the workforce.

If you like these interviews, your listeners might find them engaging too.

We ask that you listen to them and consider them for insertion into appropriate programs (and/or social media).

NDIS | Know your rights | The Rights Path Project from SSI – 2025

The NEMBC is proud to have partened with The Rights Path Project from Settlement Services International (SSI), which is designed to deliver robust choice-and-control focused outcomes for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) people with disability through an approach that draws on their own experiences.

As part of the partnership, the NEMBC developed four 30-second ready-to-air audio explainers in EnglishKhmerPunjabi, and Urdu. These are being distributed over three weeks, starting from 14 June 2025, across five community radio stations in New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland.

In addition, the NEMBC produced video versions of the audio explainers and created a playlist on the audio distribution platform Omny Studio, making the content available in multiple formats.

The content is freely available to the public and to any radio station or producer wishing to broadcast it on the radio or share the message via online platforms.

The Harms of Vaping Distribution Campaign – 2025

The NEMBC has partnered with the Multicultural Youth Advocacy Network Australia (MYAN) to distribute ready-to-air 60-second grabs for the Australian Department of Health and Aged Care on The Harms of Vaping in the following nine languages: Assyrian, Bahasa, Bengali, Hindi, Japanese, Malay, Swahili, Tagalog, and Tamil.

The NEMBC is managing the distribution to community radio for four weeks, starting on 12 May 2025, across six radio stations in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, and the Australian Capital Territory.

The script included in the grabs is as follows:

“Did you know vaping isn’t as harmless as it seems?  People who vape may be exposed to chemicals that can damage their lungs, harm brain development and impact mood, memory, and even sleep. Even when it’s not mentioned on the label, nicotine is present in many vapes, which can cause addiction and withdrawal symptoms.

Quitting supports your health, helps the environment and saves money – and there is support available to help. If you or someone you know is considering quitting – they don’t have to do it alone. Download the free My QuitBuddy App or call Quitline on 13 7848. You can also speak with a GP or trusted healthcare professional or find resources in different languages on health.gov.au/vaping. Quitting can be challenging, and it’s okay if it takes a few tries!”

The in-language grabs were produced by MYAN.

Share the Gift of Life – Organ and Tissue Donation – 2025

Share the Gift Life

The NEMBC is proud to have received a 2025 Community Awareness Grant through the DonateLife program, run by the Australian Organ and Tissue Authority, to help raise awareness about the importance of organ and tissue donation.

The production phase has been successfully completed, and the content is now being shared online across the NEMBC network during DonateLife Week, from 27 July to 2 August.

As part of this initiative, we have produced an audio explainer series available in English and Australia’s nine most spoken languages, according to the 2021 Census: ArabicCantonese, GreekHindi, ItalianMandarinPunjabiSpanish and Vietnamese.

The NEMBC consulted with health experts and community representatives from each language group to develop an English script, which was then translated into nine languages.

We engaged voice talents from across the country to record the translations, designed the accompanying graphic, and produced Headliner-style videos for each language.

Cheaper Medicines Distribution Campaign – 2025

The NEMBC is proud to collaborate with the Australian Government on the Cheaper Medicines campaign, run by the Department of Health and Aged Care.

There are now more Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) medicines available for 60-day prescriptions, allowing many Australians to receive twice the amount of medication on a single prescription.

Almost 300 of approximately 950 medicines listed on the PBS are now available for 60-day prescriptions.
It is estimated that the 60-day prescription option will save Australians more than $1.6 billion over the next four years.

To help spread this vital message, we have produced seven multilingual audio grabs in Arabic, Cantonese, Greek, Mandarin, Punjabi, Spanish, and Vietnamese, featuring NEMBC talents from across the country.
We invite you to share these audio resources with your community!

The following grabs are available for community radio stations and radio producers to download and broadcast.

Road Safety Distribution Campaign – 2025

The NEMBC is proud to collaborate with the Australian Government on the “Don’t Let a Car Change Who You Are” Road Safety Campaign, launched on 15 December 2024 by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts.

This campaign reinforces the importance of safe driving behaviours for all road users.

Recent road fatality data reveals that 1,300 people lost their lives on Australian roads in the 12 months leading up to December 2024, marking a 3.3% increase from the previous year.

The message of the campaign is ‘Don’t Let a Car Change who you are’, which asks drivers to self-reflect on the attitudes they bring to driving and encourages them to re-evaluate if they uphold their personal values when driving.

To help spread this vital message, we have produced six multilingual audio grabs in English, Arabic, Cantonese, Korean, Mandarin, and Vietnamese, featuring NEMBC talents from across the country.

We invite you to share these audio resources with your community and help promote safer driving for everyone. Stay safe on the roads!
