“Stop the Chop,” that was the main message from over 2000 who rallied at State Parliament to oppose the SA government’s contentious North Adelaide golf course expansion.

Days earlier, bulldozers rolled through Possum Park to begin felling 585 trees, making way for the $45 million upgrade.

Following a 40 000-signature petition, the Adelaide City Council is calling the Federal Environment Minister to intervene under the national Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act.

This comes after state legislation change, allowing the SA government to override council authority and convert Crown land to private-style ownership. Adelaide Park Lands Association criticised the law, saying it was ‘rushed’ and bypassed adequate consultative processes.
